There are various factors involved in estimating home solar system cost. Let’s examine how this figure can be arrived at:
- kWh/day : first of all, kWh per day should be known. This is the figure which indicates your energy needs.
kWh/day = Kilowatt Hours of electricity that you use each day.
It’s most likely that your monthly electricity bill will have kWh/month, divide this number by number of days of that month to get the kWh/day. Calculate kWh/day similarly for 6 months and then sum up all 6 numbers [each number is a kWh/day for that particular month] and divide by 6 to get the average kWh/day. Continue reading »

Apart from the cost structure, there are few points to be kept in mind whether your residence is suitable for solar panel installation:
- Solar panels require direct sunlight to function. Don’t put them on an area of your roof that has a lot of trees because this will block the sun from reaching the solar panel system. Sunlight intensity is measured in equivalent full sun hours. One hour of maximum, or 100% sunshine received by a solar panel equals one equivalent full sun hour. Even though the sun may be above the horizon for about 12 hours a day, this may only result in six hours of equivalent full sun. There are two main reasons. One is reflection due to a high angle of the sun in relationship to your solar array. The second is also due to the high angle and the amount of the earth’s atmosphere the light is passing through. When the sun is straight overhead the light is passing through the least amount of atmosphere. Early or late in the day the sunlight is passing through much more of the atmosphere due to its position in the sky. Because of these factors the most productive hours of sunlight are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Equivalent full sun hour figures per day are averaged over a period. Continue reading »
